DVM
Dr. Mary Garrity (previously Kaufman) was born in Indiana and grew up in Connecticut, but was a snowbird in the making and always knew she was destined to live somewhere warmer.Growing up, she did not initially know she wanted to be a vet but rather wanted to be a dolphin trainer. To these ends, she attended the University of Miami and majored in marine science, biology, and psychology and minored in chemistry. This eventually led to a dolphin training externship in Key Largo where she was able to see dolphins (impressively) volunteer for many different medical procedures like CT scans, blood draws, ultrasound, and endoscopy. It was here that she realized she wanted to be a part of the team that was keeping the animals healthy, not just training them.
After adding on the pre-vet track and volunteering at every clinic she could get her hands on, the next summer she returned to the same facility and created their very first veterinary internship program.
She later went on to attend University of California, Davis for veterinary school and focused on a little bit of everything – small animals, large animals, aquatics, and zoo medicine. She even published a paper on CT contrast in koi fish! After getting her feet wet (quite literally) in all corners of veterinary medicine, she found working with companion animals and their pet-parentsto be the most rewarding.
She has been a member of the AMC family since 2022 and loves it! She can be found most oftenin procedures – predominantly soft tissue surgery, dentistry, and ultrasonography – but also enjoys general medicine. She works at both the Melbourne and Indialantic offices.
Mary met her now-husband Patrick shortly after moving back to Florida during the height of COVID in 2020. They recently married in 2025 and have been “enjoying” the never-ending projects of owning and renovating a 1950’s beach home. They have a puffer fish and three cats –George, Carl, and Marcus. She also has a special place in her heart for golden retrievers after having grown up with them her whole life and having an amazing rescue named Sadie (who some of the Indialantic clients may have met in reception on Thursdays). Mary and Patrick spend their free time scuba diving, traveling with friends, going to the beach, hiking, andsnowboarding. She also volunteers with the local FWC for marine mammal rescue response.
