Practice History

Dr. Harold Nelson and Dr. Charles Joiner founded the Animal Medical Clinic in 1964. At that time, the practice location was "way out of town", and Babcock Street was a little two-lane road. The doctors took care of both large and small animal patients. Unfortunately, Dr. Nelson met an untimely death in 1980. Dr. Jeff Godwin joined the practice in 1981, and Dr. Charles Joiner's son, Steve came aboard after his graduation from veterinary school in 1984. A few of the other veterinarians in Brevard County also got their start at AMC.

We sold our large animal practice in 1987, and began to focus on providing top quality medical, surgical and preventive care to our small animal patients. We enlarged our facility in 1986 and again in 1999; now providing a 10,000 square foot animal hospital. Dr. Charles Joiner retired in 1991, but with the additions of Dr. Mike Thomson and Dr. Daren Harrison, we now have four doctors available to serve you.

Hospital Policies

Payment: Payment is due when services are rendered. We accept cash, checks, Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express. We also can help you qualify for credit with monthly payments through CareCredit.

Vaccinations: All animals hospitalized must be up to date on certain vaccinations. For dogs, this includes Rabies and DAPP vaccines. For cats, this includes Rabies and RCPC vaccines.

For boarders, Bordatella (Kennel Cough) vaccine is also required for dogs, and suggested for cats.

Volunteers: We do allow volunteers to come help with certain animal care chores. We work with the Veterinary Technician program at Brevard Community College and frequently have some of their students here for clinical experience. We also have students from Palm Bay High's health careers program here occasionally. If you are interested in being an AMC volunteer, please contact our Hospital Manager, Eileen Batache. We can not have too many volunteers at once, but she will try to work out a schedule for you if we have room.
